How A Simple Question Almost Made Me Scream

“Mom…?”

“Yes…?”

“Can you help me build a Myspace page tonight…?”

Until next time-

my cousin talked me into a myspace account
    I don’t use it.

Holy Crapolla. I am so glad I’m not a mother. I would be going….”ooooohhhh kaaaaaayyyy” while trying to come up with a distraction. I guess If YOU do it then YOU have the login. Otherwise, his pals will do it for him and then you have NO IDEA. ugh. I have a girlfriend whose teenage daughter has a MySpace account and I cringe when I read her “broadcasts”. That kid is trolling!! Do I TELL? Ugh again. You are all very brave…you mothers of children.

Actually I have one myself.  I suppose I should have started with a preamble stating that my background is in technology – software testing, training and the Internet. At one time in my life I was so into my technical job that I would fall asleep with my laptop on my chest (in my bed). You know you’ve hit rock bottom when you wake up each morning next to your computer.
At least it doesn’t fart or have bad breath, but that is a story for another day.
Brian has been watching me with computers since the days when I would pull mine apart on the dining room table and let him hand me the screwdrivers.
So…. fortunately or unfortunately I know everything possible about networking with the world.
Hell, here I am blogging about my life to anyone who wants to read about it.
This is more about the fact that Brian is not my little boy and when he asked me to help him build a Myspace page I see that the years he has played with toys is quickly coming to an end.
    Boo hoo…
God how I have loved playing with this boy of mine…
Thank you so much for commenting.

You are too funny! I remember when my daughter wanted one. I had to go out and create my own just to keep track of her. :)

(Laugh!) Exactly … I like that, “Holy crapola!”
He has the page tho … basically it is an Anime page from his favorite show Bleach, which I know nothing about, except that the characters have really odd, spiked purple and orange, Japanese-cartoon hair.
He also has posted a video with Stewart from Mad TV, who he imitates all the time, which puts me on the floor with hysterical laughter. Now, he has me hooked on Stewart and I have to go out to YouTube and watch his skits on a daily basis. My favorite one is where he gives his teacher a Valentine Video
Thanks for coming by and making me laugh.

    And so it starts…

  7. Catherine February 28, 2008 at 3:31 am #

lol… yeah the email sign-on to his account is one his dad and I have
access to so we can track the postings and keep an eye on it all from a
distance. His profile is set to private. He is pretty innocent when it
    comes to girls.
Already an older (14 yr old) girl emailed him saying
she just broke up with her boyfriend. Brian turns to me and says, “Why
is she bugging me?  She doesn’t even have anything interesting on her
page. She probably doesn’t play video games…”
I told him she was probably a “he”. Brian laughed, deleted and blocked her.
    So
girls, unless you can tell Brian how to get to the next level in Call
of Duty or how to kill a certain animal in World of Warcraft … Brian
won’t be answering any time soon.
Of course, when he does begin to get interested in answering, just hand me a BIG straw for my wine…
    Thanks for the comment!

Oh I do like your blog…and I can so relate to what you said in your previous post about you son going for the sleepover…we wait for the day to come..and when it does…we want them back…go figure…as for the myspace…that just all to crazy for me…I can barely manage the basics of the blog world….love your blog you have a great sense of humour

So true … and it now seems to be going by faster and faster. When they are three and throwing tantrums on the floor, it feels like we will be changing diapers and negotiating their power plays forever, then in an instant, they are belching and laughing with their friends.
Thank you for your kind words. It means a great deal to me when people tell me that they love the blog. My dream is to make everyone leave here feeling better – with a smile and a light heart – happy that they stopped by. I love laughter – it is my favorite thing next to my son … followed close behind by red wine and chocolate…

    Run while you can.

For sure … mostly is is my past technical career coming up to bite me in my ass.  He wanted a cool page and asked me to teach him how to create one. Of course if anyone looked at my own Myspace page, it is always under construction, so why he thinks I can make his cooler I have no idea. But in the end I did find him the code he needed to create his “Bleach” Anime page. His real interest is in World of Warcraft. In the WOW community I like to keep a closer eye on him since many older kids help him quite a bit and they chat. So far it has all been about the strategy of the game. I try to give Brian a some room to feel like a boy exploring lands far away from his mother … boys have to be able to do that…
As much as I would like to keep him tucked in one of my pockets…
Thanks Theresa … you remind me that I need to give some more link love, and get over to see your page as well. I will try and work on some link love to all the commenter’s this weekend. You are always so wonderful to stop by here.

Oh, are you going to do it? I have seen a few of my spaces.. and I was schocked at what was and can be put on there. From good kids… so I thought…. So I made a judgement call. NO!! I have two teenage daughters, 15, and 17, and they have no problem living without my space. They never have complained once. One less internet thing to worry about. Good luck Catherine!!

  13. Theresa February 29, 2008 at 6:17 pm #

You have two choices: do it for him, and then you can keep an eye on him, or refuse, in which case he’ll figure out how to do it at somebody else’s house. Good luck with it. :)

Not all children go behind their parents back. We have a lot of choices. Go with your gut feeling. Good Luck!!
