“Brian, did put your gym clothes in the laundry to be washed yesterday?”
“Oh – no I forgot.”
“Can you get them now?”
“Yeah.”
A few minutes of silence.
“Mom?”
“Yes?”
“I forgot I have this poster I have to do for English. Can we go get poster board at the store?”
“Now?”
“Yes please.”
“And Mom this project is confusing. I might need your help.”
“When is it due?”
“Tomorrow.”

“I dunno.”
“How did it drop a full grade?”
“The teacher just walks by me.”
“Walks by you?”
“Yeah.”
“What does that mean?”
“I dunno.”
“Do you need help with anything?”
“What do you mean?”
“Are you lost in the class?”
“What class?”
“Computers!”
“I dunno. I sit by myself.”
“Why?”
“I dunno.”
“Can you ask the teacher?”
“He won’t tell me.”
“Why?”
“I dunno.”
“Will you be able to bring it back up again?”
“Yeah.”
“Soon?”
“We were doing Excell but now we’re on to something else.”
“So the grade will get better.”
“It already is. I finished my project.”
“Why didn’t you tell me that in the first place?”
“I dunno.”

Just look at mine.
I think I had nice, matching glasses at one time. I just don’t remember. It’s been so long. My best ones probably died a noble death under the far corner of my son’s bed – a place I will never go.
I can hear myself saying in the future, “Would you like your glass of wine in a Tippy cup or Slurpee cup?” I suppose the answer would depend upon how much that person drinks.
(Sigh) Yes, I have plastic colored straws too. . .
