LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION

It's funny.  To have my friends tell it, I am a wizard with technology.  Buy me a piece of technology and SNAP I am using it within the hour.  That is until you buy me a camera.  Then, after several hours of swearing, my teenage son will pry it from my red angry hands and spend, oh what,  about three seconds figuring it out.  "Mom, it's easy - just watch..." Yeah, well bite me and guess what?  Santa is me.

Since California is burning and hot like a rejected redhead on PMS, we decided today to take a break from the smoke and 100 degree heat and head off to the Pacific Ocean, which is 30 minutes from our home.  You know, because really,  I wished I was back at my last job getting reprimanded over someone moving a stapler or the fax machine drinking toner too fast and the idea of having fun completely escaped me until the sky filled with so much smoke that I developed a sexy smoker's voice, Brian and I lost 10 pounds from sweating in our NON air conditioned home and I suddenly thought:

B E A C H ?

What a great excuse to prove to a teenager that I still have a small portion of a brain left that I can use to drive, find fun and "point and click" a camera.  He's still in shock.

And of course I must also annoy Boonie-the-dog.  Can you tell by the expression on her face that she is at the age of "teenage" in dog years?  She's a girl, so I am getting the "Do you REALLY have to do that?  You are embarrassing me and other dogs are staring" look.

I was thinking I was all that until I took this photo and realized an hour later that there is a black and white icon on the camera and this is what happens when you press that button. Watch out ... Ansel Adams here I come...

I'd like to say that I intended for the lens not to be open when I took this photo, or that this is me looking through a fence, but no I actually tried to take a cool shot faster than the camera was ready.  Kinda reminds me of my past sex life.

So there you have it ... my photos are officially back on my blog.  With a real camera no less.  No more camera phone photos.  Please, wipe your tears ... I know how much you will miss those blurry, thumb in the middle, heads and feet cut off photos.

I am sunburned as a lobster though if it's any consolation.

Until next time-

C

Cool, a real camera! We'll all be looking forward to more pictures. The second picture of Brian reminds me of your Dad, I'm not sure why...

Oops Cath, I meant to say the second picture of Brian with Boonie. I think it's the way he's looking down and they way he's holding his shoulders. Boonie is cute too however.

Brenda I got what you meant ... You are one of the few people I still know that actually knew my dad. Hell, you even traveled with us on vacation and had to put up with him yelling at us to hurry up and get ready.

Whenever I want my phone to do something new I have to have my oldest boy do it. I've not yet figured out what all of the buttons are for.

Catherine... I've got two Canon film cameras and accessories for you if you want - maybe one of them works...

My digital camera has a great feature "slimming" - who wants to use film nowadays when you can drop 20 pounds with a push of a button?

Great shots of Brian - he is GROWING...

It was hot in the south bay as well - and I haven't A/C either.

LOL Brian figured out the Blue Tooth for both my ex husband and my phone! We just handed them to him and said, "Here - help us." He figured it out in about 2 seconds!
You know, we passed a law that we can't hold cell phones while driving ... but I can still put on make-up (which I do), drink tea (which I do), brush my hair or put it up (which I do) .... sometimes all at the same time WHILE DRIVING...
Now I'm always looking in the mirror to adjust the Blue Tooth piece, because I have weird small ears, only to realize I need lipstick ... then get that out... and on it goes...

Well hello Dale, old boyfriend, guy I knew friend... long time no hear from. Two weeks ago I was actually thinking about you. Elisabet and her husband moved to Upper State NY. I was remembering the time the three of us had lunch in Los Gatos (my favorite town). Wasn't that a blast? You were shocked beyond words at the length of my hair and how different I looked. You hardly said a word (laugh). Elisabet and I invited that cute girl to sit at our table so you could be with a table full of pretty women. I still laugh when I think of it. Wow, it was a rainy day too. Gee, how long have we been "friends" now ...? ... 8 years?
Does the camera slimming feature work in real life? Cause if it does then I know a bunch of women friends who would like to share this accessory...
I take it this means I need to drive to "see you" to acquire said "accessories"? Hmmmm fun ... what is that? I've been working at chasing this dream and raising Brian to the exclusion of all else. Shame on me, huh?
Yes, Brian who is almost 5'7", size 11 shoes and 165 pounds ... is 13. The doctors project him to be between 6'2" and 6'5" - oiy! How will I yell up to that? I am saving my truck since he has already claimed it as his truck when he turns 16. Driving ... just give me a wine IV now.
I haven't been to the south bay in ages. The last time I was in SF I was at the Park 55 with Kb and Heather for a lecture by James Ray. It was one of those beautiful clear SF evenings. It felt so alive and vibrant with people, lights, cars and the sounds of the city. God how I miss it.
It's good to hear from you and I am flattered you take the time to come by and read our life. Let me know about the camera stuff and how you are doing.
    Hugs,
    Cath

Cath - I check in every few months to be the virtual voyeur and see what's happening in your world. This weekend, I had the honor of going to a conference YOU should have been at - BlogHer08. I was asked to be the token techie at my company's booth there. About 1200 women bloggers attended. When I got the invite - it was the reminder to check back on the site. I almost half expected to see you there. It was quite interesting a conference of about 90%+ women attending. The real drag for me was that the conference floor at the hotel they had it at - they converted all the men's restrooms to women's - I had to go downstairs, past the lobby and elevators, towards the guest towers to find a men's room - and then - there were LINEs. Guess there is some sort of karmic joke there... This being said - surrounded by geek women - was interesting. Seems be be a bunch in your class - "mommy bloggers" - I think they were the majority. Was interesting. I showed your page to one of the folks there (if you hear from a Terri - it was I that set you up). This was at the Westin Saint Francis, not the Parc 55 - but I've stayed at the Parc 55 before - nice place. I remember that trip to LG well - its been a while - Los Gatos is still a favorite of mine. Even outside of that, I was talking about you the other day - I found out a coworker of mine commutes from Santa Rosa - I asked just where he was, etc - he was amazing how well I knew the town - had to explain that I used to have a gf, er girl I knew, friend there....

Yes BlogHer ... hmmm hanging with a bunch of women after being with my son 24/7. Are you trying to tell me that I really don't have a life, or need one? Not that Mommy/women bloggers aren't wonderful ... they are ... but I'd rather go to a boating convention ... a Harley Davidson convention ... a pilots convention... Los Gatos ... anywhere there are more GROWN men than women. I suppose I'll have to participate in my genre at some point ... but I am so involved in the raising of a teenager, studying, working, writing that there is no extra time for much of anything.
Well you and Santa Rosa ... did you tell them you drove all the way up here just to go to Charles Schultz's museum? Even those of us that grew up with Jill and Sparky don't even go to the museum...(laugh) I guess we tend not to appreciate what is in our own backyard. The ice arena just got through hosting the Senior Olympics. Mr Schultz used to play in it every year.  Some Hockers loved it ...others hated it.
"Er...friend" ... don't feel bad ... even my ex calls me that ...although he does tend to pick apart the men I date/dated/dating.  Brian has swim class - gotta run - see that's how it is now.
    Cath
